Blues Traveler was just hitting the stage when the skies opened with the latest deluge. But those closest to the stage kept on dancing.
Between the music and the food, Saturday's bitter cold and pouring rain was not going to stop Frank Bowron from enjoying the day.
"We've been excited to come here for a month," Bowron said. "We couldn't wait for the barbecue. I'll be down here all day.
Many in the crowd were dug in with ponchos and heavy-duty rain gear, waiting to see headlining act, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter James Taylor.
The sold-out festival also included four other nationally renowned musical acts on the main stage and six local bands on the "town stage."
Emily Newcamp said she was so excited that she got tickets, which sold out within five minutes of going on sale in early April.
"I might not stay all day, but I'm really looking forward to Blues Traveler and James Taylor," Newcamp said.
Town Party officials said they expected most, if not all of the tickets sold to be honored at some point during the day.
Not all of the festivities went forward in the rain, however. The new, free "Greenwich Town Party Rocks the Avenue" had to be canceled due to the weather.
Greenwich Town Party organizers said the cost of 5,000 ticket holders were subsidized by local donations.
Tickets to the Town Party were made on recycled hemp and were provided by InTicketing. A company spokesperson said InTicketing would plant one tree in Haiti for each ticket sold for the Greenwich Town Party.
