GREENWICH, Conn. -- While Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday all boost the economy, a new after-Thanksgiving observance by Greenwich-based Family Centers encourages people to give back to their communities.
In recognition of #GivingTuesday on Dec. 3, Family Centers has launched a special fundraising campaign to provide local children with preschool scholarships. Each year, Family Centers provides more than $1.5 million in scholarships to ensure that Fairfield County's children have the educational foundation they need upon entering kindergarten. The agency hopes the campaign will raise $18,872: the cost to sponsor one child in one of Family Centers’ Early Care and Education programs for an entire year.
All donations are tax deductible and can be made securely online . With four sites in Greenwich – the Joan Melber Warburg Early Childhood Center, Arch Street Preschool, Gateway Preschool and First Steps at Armstrong Court – Family Centers offers quality early childhood education services for the community.
Started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y in New York, #GivingTuesday is a national day of giving that encourages families, individuals, corporations and civic groups to participate in philanthropic and volunteer activities that benefit their communities. Last year, more than 2,500 partners from all 50 states participated and raised more than $10 million in donations. For more information, visit www.givingtuesday.org.
