The event will be 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at the Stamford Hilton, 1 First Stamford Place. Tickets are $200 per person. The event will include dinner and an auction.
Houston is a managing director and New England market executive with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.
According to the Girl Scouts, Houston agreed to be the Woman of Merit honoree but wanted to do more. First, she encouraged Merrill Lynch to be the presenting sponsor for the event, making a contribution of $25,000.
Houston also put together an event for 18 girls at Merrill Lynch during the Girl scout Career Week. She spoke to girls and their parents, and her team showed them the ropes of financial services.
Houston was the inspirational keynote speaker at the Gold Awards Ceremony on June 1 at the University of New Haven, where she encouraged the girls to be their best selves and honored the 61 Girl Scouts in Connecticut who earned their Gold Awards in the past year.
Houston began her career at Merrill Lynch 25 years ago as a client associate in the Rockefeller Center office in New York. She became a financial adviser in 1986 and worked with clients in New York City and Stamford, becoming a member of the Circle of Excellence in 1997 and 1998.
She then moved into management, ultimately leading sales teams in Westchester County, Connecticut, and Manhattan. For seven years she was named one of the top directors/managing directors of the firm. In 2009, she became managing director of the 5th Avenue office, and in 2010 she was named the regional managing director for the New Jersey region.
In 2002, Houston attended the Merrill Lynch Women's Leadership Program at Harvard Business School, and she was selected as a participant in the Six Sigma Program.
Houston is a former professional dancer. She also enjoys sports and running. In 1998 and 2000, she participated in the New York City Marathon. She lives in Greenwich with her husband, Tom, and their two children, Trent, 21, and Kristen, 17.
