Friends of Karen provides vital, practical and comprehensive support free of charge to families caring for a child with cancer or other life-threatening illness.

“We work closely with Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital, and the number of Connecticut families we’re helping has quadrupled in the last three years,” says Judith Factor, Friends of Karen’s executive director. “We want to be a resource for every family that needs us.”

New Canaan residents Trish and Eric Lobenfeld hosted a meeting to kick off an outreach initiative to better serve families in Connecticut.

“The emotional disruption of having a catastrophically ill child is more than anyone should ever have to deal with alone,” said Trish Lobenfeld, a member of Friends of Karen board of directors. “Friends of Karen is there to help with basic day-to-day necessities that all too often can’t be met due to financial and time management constraints.”

Friends of Karen serves families in Fairfield, Middlesex and New Haven counties as well as northern New Jersey, New York City and surrounding counties.
