Rather than wait in the line at customer service, Sabo decided to buy his lottery tickets from a nearby instant ticket vending machine for the first time. It was a spur of the moment choice that paid off handsomely for Sabo, with a $30,000 top prize winning ticket.

“I bought the [winning] ticket by accident. I meant to buy two $20 tickets, but I didn’t have my glasses on,” Sabo told lottery officials with a laugh. “Instead, I bought a ‘30X Cash’ ticket for $30 by mistake, which left me with $10 to buy another ticket. When I got home and scratched the 30X ticket, I couldn’t believe it—we won $30,000. Winning the way we did was a very freaky thing!”

Super Stop & Shop at 760 Villa Ave. in Fairfield will receive a $300 check from the CT Lottery for selling Sabo his $30,000 top prize winning ticket.
