"Visage" explores the common threads that connect our humanity despite individual differences and experiences. It portrays the skin of life, which changes throughout one’s existence. Steers’ manipulation of paint allows a raw depiction of the essence of one’s being and expression of our experiences.

Steers approaches each piece without a preconceived notion of the outcome. The paint ?ows, each stroke leading to the next. As the piece develops, images emerge, blend and coexist. Some are representational, some abstract, some surreal, as in life itself. The painting emerges, the Visage fully formed. Beneath it all, the eyes peer out and engage the viewer emphasizing this fundamental human connection. To experience these works is to experience a piece of oneself.

A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, Steers is known for her dynamic and colorful paintings. Over the years her work on shaped board has evolved, the shaped canvas adding an additional dimension and element to the meaning of the piece. Steers lives in Roxbury with her husband and two children. An active member of the community, she also owns Steers Studios, a design studio specializing in website design, graphic design and illustration.

Experience “Visage” through December at the Hudson City Savings Bank, 100 E. Putnam Ave., Cos Cob. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Artwork is for sale. For additional information about Steers’ art, visit http://www.jeannesteers.com.
