FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The Stamford-based Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education has received an $8,000 grant to launch support groups for middle school and high school girls in lower Fairfield County.
The foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls has granted The Center $8,000 to launch a "Girls Circle" program in Lower Fairfield County. The Girls Circle model is a structured support group developed by the One Circle Foundation. It addresses the unique needs of girls ages 9 to 18, and is designed to increase positive connections, personal and collective strengths, and competence in girls.
“We are thrilled the Fund for Women and Girls have recognized the value of the unique strengths of the 'Girls Circle' model, and are funding the center to ensure the values of this program are being made available to at risk teens in lower Fairfield County," Ivonne Zucco, the center’s executive director, said in a statement. " 'Girls Circle' maintains that girls have the basic right to safety and health. In fact, as we see all too often, many girls need protection and safety from relational, emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse. This is a sad, but true reality.”
The center serves eight towns in Lower Fairfield County, including: Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport and Wilton.
With this funding, The Center’s goal is to provide guidance for 90 “at risk” adolescent girls, plus develop future leaders who will take a stand against sexual violence.
Since 1979, the center has provided free 24/7 help to survivors of sexual abuse. To learn more or to get involved, call 203-348-9346, email email@example.com, or visit www.thecenter-ct.org .
