The plan was to build a trail in the Bristow Sanctuary and Wildwood Preserve that would be raised above the wetlands, according to a GoFundMe launched by Isaac Marshall for the project.
However, the project was in vain, as "during that ill-fated year, the Eastern Seaboard was hit by Hurricane Sandy. Due to this unforeseen tempest, the project was never completed," the GoFundMe page said.
The remains of the project now sits, "in an unsightly and dangerous manner in the middle of a stream bed, disrupting the flow of the water," the page said.
Now one New Canaan teen is seeking to make a difference.
"As my Eagle Scout Project, I have decided to finish what my fellow scout started. I have been generously lent most of the necessary tools to achieve this goal," the page said. The scout just needs a little bit more help.
He is seeking $600 for the project to purchase:
- 24 composite wood planks ($56 to pay for four)
- Box of screws ($29)
- Pressure-treated 4x4s ($15)
- Drill gun ($149)
- Drill bit ($8)
Bristow Sanctuary and Wildwood Preserve is a 17-acre bird sanctuary located off Mead Park.
"We are gonna BUILD THAT BRIDGE, let's make wetlands great again," said a supporter on the page.
