Blues Legend To Headline Greenwich Town Party

The first-ever Greenwich Town Party, an event by Greenwich residents and for Greenwich residents, will be the place to be Memorial Day weekend. And headlining the event is Grammy Award-winning blues legend Buddy Guy.

“This family friendly town party will bring families, neighbors and fellow citizens together for a morning, afternoon and evening of pure fun and enjoyment," said Scot Weicker of the SBWEventsGroup, the company contracted to manage the event. "It will have a unique flair of being an all-day family friendly event with 11 hours of incredible live music and great food.” Greenwich hopes the party will be a Memorial Day Weekend tradition for years to come.

The all-day event, set for May 28 at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, will feature performances on two stages, including a local stage with artists and musicians from Greenwich and neighboring towns, as well as a main stage, hosting musical greats The Temptations, Toots and the Maytals, Little Feat, Robert Randolph and the Family Band and a special performance by Guy.

He is a critically acclaimed, five-time Grammy-winning American blues guitarist and singer. A pioneer of the Chicago blues sound, Guy is known for his showmanship on stage, playing guitar with drumsticks or strolling into the audience while playing solos. He was ranked 30th in Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”

The party will kick off at 10 a.m. with four hours of family fun. At 11 a.m., the School of Rock Stars, a handpicked group of talented students from the Fairfield County performance-based music program for kids, will perform.

At 2 p.m., area restaurants such as l’escale, Restaurant Jean-Louis, The Ginger Man, Fjord Fisheries, Pasta Vera and Asiana Café, will offer their signature dishes for purchase.

A small portion of the party is funded through ticket sales, but donations from town residents and local business sponsors provide the majority of funding. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, in person at Greenwich Town Hall, at 101 Field Point Road (Monday-Wednesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 pm), as well as at the Arch Street Teen Center, 100 Arch St. (Tuesday-Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m.), online, or by calling 866-558-4253.

Prices are $40 for families with two adults and at least one child under 13 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m. only, and guests must enter before noon), and $40 per person for general all-day admission for attendees ages 13 to 64 (10 a.m. to 10 p.m.). Seniors 65 and older and children under 13 are free for all-day admission but need to arrange for tickets in advance at Greenwich Town Hall or the Arch Street Teen Center.
