Block Party to Aid Officer With Illness

At the bottom of Greenwich Avenue on Sunday expect police presence to be high, music to be loud and alcohol to be flowing at this year's Greenwich Avenue Block Party fundraiser to benefit an ailing officer and his family.

Proceeds will benefit Sgt. Roger Petrone, a 16-year veteran with the Greenwich Police Department who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease in 2007. Petrone remains on active duty in Criminal Investigations with the force. According to Silver Shield representative Thomas Keegan, the money raised at the block party will go toward Petrone's daughter Sydney's college education.

The dance/party band, the Short Bus will play, while The Sundown Saloon, Thataway Café and MacDuff's provide the food and beverages at the event, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1. A $10 donation is being asked from attendees.
