GREENWICH, Conn. -- Abilis of Greenwich, a nonprofit organization that provides services and support for individuals with special needs, is a unique place to shop this holiday season for one-of-a-kind handmade holiday gifts.
The Abilis Gift Shop, located at 50 Glenville St. in Greenwich.
Items available range from unique, one-of-a-kind gifts handmade by participants in the Abilis program. The inventory is constantly changing depending on season and holiday, but typical products include handmade soaps, Shea butters, sugar scrubs, candles, art work, jewelry and more. Greeting cards are also available. The staff is always happy to create special orders and gift baskets — perfect for teachers, family or any holiday gift.
“Shopping at the Abilis Gift Shop helps create meaningful jobs for those with developmental disabilities,” said Dennis W. Perry, CEO and president of Abilis. “It also provides beautiful handmade gifts made by some of the most loyal and enthusiastic workers you’ll ever have the pleasure to meet.”
The Abilis Gift Shop, which was recently renovated, is a retail training site where Abilis trains adults with developmental disabilities to work toward community-based jobs in sales, production, inventory, order fulfillment and shipping/delivery services. The hours are Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday evenings from 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
