GREENWICH, Conn. Three financial companies with offices in Greenwich will hold a blood drive challenge in February. They are urging all those who are eligible to donate blood to support a participating financial services team.
The companies are Wells Fargo, Northern Trust and JP Morgan. Along with the American Red Cross, they will sponsor a blood drive in the Greenwich Town Hall Meeting Room on Feb. 22 from 11:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Patients need blood every day, especially during the winter season when blood donations often decrease, according to the Red Cross. On average, 44,000 blood donations are needed each day to help trauma victims, surgical patients, burn victims, patients with blood disorders, and others.
Donors must be 17 years old, meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on height) and be in good health. People should bring their Red Cross blood donor card or other form of ID when they come to donate. Donors can give whole blood every 56 days.
As a special thank-you, all those who donate at American Red Cross blood drives in Connecticut during February will be eligible for a chance to win $200 worth of free heat for a month. Weekly drawings will be held from Feb. 1 through Feb. 29.
