The event begins and ends at Old Greenwich Elementary School on Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich.

For more than a decade, Greenwich families have woken up early on Mother’s Day and instead of making mom breakfast in bed, have headed out for the Mother’s Day Bike Ride.

Started as a way to educate kids and adults about good biking behavior, how to share the road and how to maintain safe equipment, the event run by the OGRCC has exploded into a morning of family fun and entertainment

While the day is about having fun, bike safety is still an important message to get across. Many local bike shops will be on hand at registration to check out bikes, do safety inspections, check helmets and show people how to best be safe on the roads.

Thanks to new partner Ellington Management Group and the efforts of others, several elements to the day have been added to take the event to the next level. In addition to the traditional 6-mile ride to and around Tod’s Point, 1-mile Kid’s Ride, and beginners kick bike ride, there’s now more to see and do, including:

  • Two BMX stunt bike shows from pro stunt team Wheels N Motion
  • Kids craft area to make Mother’s Day cards
  • Food trucks for getting brunch for Mom
  • Flowers for Mom
  • Personal trainers for yoga and stretching pre- and post-rides

Ellington and Neighbor to Neighbor will be collecting food donations on-site for the local food pantry, and the locally organized Mother’s Day Movement will be on hand helping raise awareness and educate people about the challenges faced by mother’s around the globe. Proceeds from the event will benefit the OGRCC Scholarship Fund.

Online registration is open at www.myogrcc.org. Cost is $10 for adults; $5 for children under 12; and $25 for the whole family.
