TV's 'Cake Boss' Visits Westchester Shop In New Episode

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Lidia Racanelli's dream of owning and operating her own bakery came true last year and that dream added another chapter when television's "Cake Boss" extended a hand to help build the Dobbs Ferry bake shop's business.

In an episode of "Bakery Boss" airing at 10 p.m., Monday, Jan.13 on TLC, "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro visits Lidia’s Bakeshop & Café, where he helps set the business on the right track.

Racanelli opened her new business at 66 Main Street in March of 2013 and faced several challenges in establishing a successful operation. Her family gave her the resources she needed to open, but it may have been too much too soon for this talented baker turned business woman.

Racanelli said in a Daily Voice feature in September that she was motivated to open her business in the village because her family kitchen was a source of love and nurturing growing up. But the baking came naturally and the business aspect did not, prompting the call to the "Cake Boss."

"The Bakery Boss experience was really good," said Racanelli, who lives in Irvington. "It was nothing like I expected (being that I never been on TV before). The crew and staff were always so nice and carrying though out the time that they were there. The film got a little intense as you can see from the clips. Buddy was really nice and spent time to get to know us personally as bakery and family."

Valastro judged that the bakery lacked the right organization and all of the stress was causing problems. The Cake Boss (Buddy) tries to mend the family while also giving Lidia the business knowledge she needs to run a successful bakery.

"Bakery Boss" is inspired by Valastro's efforts to turn his own family-run neighborhood bakery, Carlo's, into a global destination. He understands the challenges of running a business, and the complications of doing it with relatives at your side.

In the episode, Valastro spends time helping Lidia and her family in crisis, both personally and professionally, helping evaluate their every ingredient and technique, and challenging them to make big changes all in an effort to transform their dream into a sweet success.
