Tesla Recharges At I-95 Rest Area's Charging Station

DARIEN, Conn. — The state’s recently rebuilt rest areas offer charging stations for electric cars, and it appears that at least one driver is using them.

A Tesla, a luxury all-electric car, was seen recharging at the Darien I-95 south rest area Monday afternoon.

The Tesla starts out at about $75,000. The cost to charge at the rest area? It's free.

Founded in 2003 by Silicon Valley engineers, Tesla launched its first Roadster in 2008. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, according to the company’s website.

The company now has 50,000 vehicles on the road. It’s Fremont, Calif., factory has the capacity to produce 1,000 vehicles per week.
