Punxsutawney Phil broke our hearts earlier in the week when his shadow forecast more gray days ahead. One remedy for the cold? Greenwich eateries with hot, house-made soups. Here's a sampling:

  • The sushi gets rave reviews online at Asiana Cafe but next time, try the soups. The seafood coconut curry and Tom Yung Gung are hot and spicy and a great way to put winter's chill at bay. Grab a spoon: 130 E. Putnam Ave., 203-622-6833, www.asianacafe.com.
  • Bistro Versailles has a new chef (as of September) and has re-created menus, which means, aside from the traditional favorite of La Soupe à l’Oignon (French onion soup), there are new varieties such as carrot and ginger, artichoke, chestnut, watercress, rutabaga, parsnip and ginger, Mediterranean fish and seafood bisque. Grab a spoon: 339 Greenwich Ave.,  203-661-6634, www.versaillesgreenwich.com.
  • Daily soup specials are available at Meli-Melo where the emphasis is on healthy, fresh ingredients. Among the choices: Butternut squash and roasted apple, asparagus, tomato pesto, fish Provencal and garlic, wild forest mushrooms, cauliflower curry and mussel saffron bisque. Go here for the ever-changing list. Grab a spoon: 362 Greenwich Ave., 203-629-6153, www.melimelogreenwich.com.
  • The coffee alone with its many incarnations and varieties at Sweet Pea's Baking Company has you at "hello" as does the bakery's warm and cozy setting, but the food is just as delightful. Soups are seasonal: Go now and you'll find potato leek minestrone, butternut squash and everyone's favorite: Chicken noodle. Grab a spoon:  212 Sound Beach Ave.,Old Greenwich, 203-990-0008, www.sweetpeasct.com.
