So says a report by Statista, which tracks consumer spending. All in all, total planned Easter spending across the U.S. will amount to $16.4 billion, according to the National Retail Federation. That’s a slight increase from last year, when total planned spending stood at $15.9 billion.

Where are people purchasing their Easter gifts this year? Most shoppers, 58.6 percent, will purchase something at a discount store while 40.7 percent will buy something at a department store.

The rest -- 18.8 percent  -- will embrace technology and order items online. Broken down further, 13.5 percent of smartphone owners are set to purchase products, along with 16.6 percent of tablet owners.

Of course, many of those Easter gifts will be chocolate bunnies and candy eggs. When it comes to those decadent treats, 66 percent of Americans prefer solid ones to hollow ones while 89 percent believe the correct way to eat a chocolate bunny is ears first.

It isn’t all about chocolate, though --16 billion jelly beans are produced for Easter.

And let's not forget your beautiful Easter baskets and decorated eggs. Send us your photos, Fairfield County. We'd love to see what you're up to this holiday.
