“Shawn is a gifted pastor and a creative thinker about ministry today,” said Senior Minister Maxwell Grant. “We are very grateful that he is part of the team at Second Church.”
Garan, who is to be ordained at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, is a military veteran and Alliance Theological Seminary graduate who first joined the Second Congregational Church in 2015, according to a statement from the church. He is married and the father of two young children.
Garan and his wife, Ashley Garan, are both quite active in the church, according to the statement, which said he directs two of the largest youth groups in Greenwich and the church’s confirmation class.
The Church said that among Garan’s latest initiatives for the community is the “Dinner Stories” series, a community event to be held each Sunday that kicked off on March 5.
The series aims to encourage church members and others to enjoy dinner together while reading from the Bible.
Church officials said that a reception and cake will follow the ordination service on March 19. Garan will then host the week’s Dinner Stories event at 5 p.m.
