The HGTV series "Property Brothers" features twin brothers who help couples find, buy and convert severe fixer-uppers into the ultimate dream home.
But scammers are attempting to turn that dream into a nightmare by pretending to be members of the staff of the home improvement show and demanding tens of thousands of dollars for a booking.
A big "Property Brothers" fan who posts frequently on the show's Facebook page says she received a message from someone claiming to work for the show wanting to know if she still wanted her home renovated.
The Aurora, Colorado woman then received a contract demanding money up front. When no payment was made, Facebook messages became more and more urgent and had worse and worse grammar, prompting her to become suspicious and report the scam.
The show's hosts, brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott, issued a warning about the scam on Facebook you can read here.
"Remember that we will never contact you from an unverified account or an unverified email address," wrote Jonathan Watch for the blue checkmark and watch out for each other. If you see a scam out there please report it to the appropriate parties. As always, we thank you for your continued support."
Jonathan is a licensed contractor and Drew is a seasoned real estate agent. The show frequently produces episodes in the tristate area, with frequent stops in Westchester, as well as Fairfield and Bergen counties.
