GREENWICH, Conn. -- Planning is underway to launch the first annual Greenwich International Film Festival, an event that will highlight and showcase the works of independent filmmakers and artists from around the world.

The Greenwich International Film Festival will hold its launch event Sunday, March 2.

An Evening with Oscar, sponsored by Moët Hennessy and Serendipity, will take place at the J House in Riverside. This is the first of many events the film festival will host, leading up to inaugural festival in the summer of 2015.

“We’re strongly committed to making the Greenwich International Film Festival an event for every film enthusiast, artist, and industry professional. An Evening with Oscar is just one of the many events we’re planning to bring cinephiles and industry professionals together in one place,” Carina Crain, executive officer and co-founder of the festival, said in a statement. “Greenwich is the perfect fit for independent filmmakers, as the area is a global center for professionals looking for a good investment.”

The ultimate goal of the Greenwich International Film Festival is to attract people from all over the world and make Greenwich a center for independent film.

The festival features many prominent members of the film and finance community on its executive board, including Jeb Stuart, critically acclaimed action screenwriter of "Die Hard" and "The Fugitive;" George Walker, CEO of Neuberger Berman, and his wife Nancy Dorn Walker; "Today" show correspondent Jenna Bush Hager; New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira, and Greenwich resident; writer, actress, and producer Emily Wachtel; and Clay Pecorin, Greenwich native and producer of such movies as "The Big Wedding" starring Robert DeNiro and Diane Keaton.
