Join The Circus In Greenwich 'Barnum' Auditions

GREENWICH, Conn. -- The high-flying, fast-talking act of circus legend P.T. Barnum is heading to the stage in Greenwich as the St. Catherine's Players hold auditions for "Barnum" on Dec. 2, 3 and 4 at St. Catherine of Siena Church in the Lucey Parish Hall.

The musical tells the story of Barnum's humble beginnings in entertainment in 1835 to joining forces with James A. Bailey to create "The Greatest Show on Earth" in 1881.

Auditions are open for children in third-grade and at least 8 years old and adults of all ages.

Those interested in auditioning should come with a prepared song and sheet music for the accompanist. In addition, please bring a list of your rehearsal and production date conflicts (January through March) to write on your audition sheet for the director.

Rehearsals begin on Jan. 6, and are held Monday through Thursday evenings. Production dates are Feb. 28, March 1, March 2, March 7, March 8, and March 9, 2014 with curtain times of Fridays at 8, Saturdays at 7:30 and Sundays at 2.

Stuart Adelberg, director, has led St. Catherine’s Players for more than twenty years, and Rita Lapcevic, musical director, has been with the Players for more than ten years.

"Barnum" with music written by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Michael Stewart and book by Mark Bramble, won Tony Awards for Best Actor, Scenic Designer and Costume Design, the Drama Desk Award for Best Actor, and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Broadway Musical in 1980.

The following roles available: • Phineas Taylor Barnum – The Prince of Humbug – male – baritone • Chairy Barnum – His wife – female – mezzo • Joice Heth – Oldest woman alive – female – alto • Tom Thumb – Smallest man in the world – male – tenor • Julius Goldschmidt – Jenny Lind's manager – male – spoken • Jenny Lind – Swedish soprano – female – soprano • Blues Singer – female – alto • James A Bailey – Small circus owner – male – baritone • Chester Lyman – Joice Heth's manager – male – spoken • Amos Scudder – Owner of the American Museum – male – spoken • Plus a host of extras (adults, teenagers and children at least eight years old/third grade) in a huge selection of speaking and non-speaking parts including tumblers, jugglers, clowns, aerialists, acrobats, gymnasts, bricklayers, museum patrons, strongmen, beefeaters, the Bridgeport Pageant Choir and bands of every size, shape and description.
