JHouse Moves into Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. – Fairfield County’s newest boutique hotel, JHouse , is a study in exurban luxury. No detail has been overlooked, from Fretté linens in the ultra-quiet rooms, to state-of-the-art corporate facilities, JHouse in Greenwich is the destination, whatever the occasion.

The new hotel, on the site of the old Howard Johnson hotel, has a playful, welcoming spirit. From funky details, to contemporary artwork, to the indoor/outdoor cocktail lounge with a heated floor, JHouse is a haven for the savvy, spirited traveller, who values form as much as function.

The outdoor pool offers private cabanas, which will soon boast high-definition televisions within them. “The hotel windows are completely soundproofed,” says JHouse General Manager, John Sheedy. So guests whose rooms look out over the rear courtyard won’t be disturbed by any sound coming from the pool area, according to Sheedy.

Sheedy himself brings 30 years of international luxury hotel experience to his work at JHouse, including work at the St. Regis and Four Seasons Hotels in Manhattan. And his manor is warmly professional, making him as approachable as he is efficient.

The ultra-modern 86-room hotel—designed by David Ash of New York’s d-ash design firm —boasts three suits and endless modern comforts such as iPad room controls, flat screen televisions that double as mirrors and glass enclosed fireplaces within the common spaces. And, JHouse has the corporate set in mind with multiple, sound-proofed rooms available for business meetings and events.

JHouse’s in-house restaurant, eleven 14 kitchen, is a gourmet foodie’s dream, headed by Executive Chef François Kwaku-Dongo, formerly of Wolfgang Puck’s Spago in West Hollywood and Chicago. Chef François is also the force behind The Chocolate Lab, a sweet shop and café located within the hotel.

To sum up JHouse in a word, it would be social. The space is meant for entertaining, with a quiet, Fretté-trimmed retreat at the ready for you when the party is over.

JHouse is located at 1114 East Putnam Ave in Greenwich, Conn.
