Well, the wait is over Thursday, June 29, at 11 a.m. when the zoo celebrates a big gender reveal at the lynx exhibit.

How will you know? Staffers will give the male lynx a paper mache rabbit to play with. Once he opens it, guests should see blue or pink streamers inside to announce his offspring’s gender.

Guests can also donate $4 at the front gate to receive a blue or pink crown.

For $5 you can buy a “Team Boy” or “Team Girl” bracelet and $10 will get you a pair of “Team Boy” or “Team Girl” sunglasses.

A cake and cupcake extravaganza will follow the big reveal.

Born in April, the kittens have been offered the opportunity to explore their exhibit, but their mom is very protective and they haven’t made their first foray outside yet.

And the zookeepers won’t rush things. Part of the zoo’s focus on animal welfare places such choices with the animals. They figure Mom knows when the time is right.
