Greenwich Shows Off Its Fall Fashion

GREENWICH, Conn. — Fifty people strutted their stuff down Greenwich Avenue on Thursday night for the town’s third annual Fashion Night Out event.

A portion of the street was closed and a red carpet rolled out so the models could show off fall fashions from more than 20 Greenwich stores. The participating locations included adult clothing, children’s apparel, shoes and even cars as Miller Motorcars had several vehicles lining the makeshift runway.

Though the event centered on fashion, the organizers in Greenwich have turned it into an event for the entire community, recruiting people from the area to be models.

“From the moms to the tots, everyone is participating,” said Geri Corrigan of Saks Fifth Avenue and one of the organizers of Fashion Night Out Greenwich.

First Selectman Peter Tesei, who served as honorary chairman, said he was happy to see all of the people who came out to support the local businesses. The turnout “reinforces the Greenwich brand, the brand of excellence.”

About 150 people lined the streets and “oohed” and “aahed” as the models made their way down the runway. The turnout was about double from last year, Corrigan said.

“It gets bigger and better every year,” she said of its growth.

After the fashion, show many of the participating businesses held parties.

Fashion Night Out is an international event, started in 2009 as a way to try to boost the economy and put the fun back in shopping, its website said. Last year, events took place in 18 countries, with more than 4,500 events in the United States, the website said.
