Greenwich has a median family income about $167,000 and a median home price of $1.9 million, according to CNNMoney. That makes Greenwich No. 2 on CNNMoney's list of top-earning small cities, behind Bethesda, Md., a suburb of Washington, D.C.

The website calls Greenwich a "magnet for hedge funds and boutique financial service companies."

"Many of their well-paid executives call it home for the short commute, the excellent school system and access to outdoor attractions, which include beaches, boating and golf," CNN Money says.

Greenwich also ranked No. 29 — tops in Connecticut — on CNNMoney's list of best small cities. Nearby cities on the best places to live list include Fairfield at No. 64 and White Plains, N.Y., at No. 44.

These rankings don't come cheap. Greenwich also was No. 1 on CNNMoney's priciest homes list.
