GREENWICH, Conn. -- Greenwich Hospital paid tribute to cancer survivors, including those currently affected and those who have moved beyond it, at an ice cream social in the hospital’s Garden Cafe.

Dozens of current and former patients, family and staff gathered in celebration of survivorship.

“Just decades ago, few even dared to say the word ‘cancer,’" President/CEO Frank Corvino said in welcoming the survivors. “Today hundreds of thousands of people are living long and healthy lives as cancer survivors, thanks to improved medical services and treatment options.”

Barbara Ward, MD, Greenwich Hospital Breast Center medical director, presented the Breast Center Annual Award to Harriet Borrack and Betty Golomb, owners of Saxon-Kent Lingerie in Orange, for their work in providing prosthetic bras, wigs and bathing suits to women undergoing cancer treatment. The Breast Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital's Greenwich Hospital Campus combines the newest technology and a team of top breast specialists at one state-of-the-art center. The multidisciplinary team of oncology experts at the center offers a full range of services, from prevention, to diagnosis and treatment, to helping women stay healthy after treatment. The Breast Center is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. Greenwich Hospital is a 206-bed community hospital serving lower Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester County. It is a major academic affiliate of Yale School of Medicine and a member of Yale New Haven Health System.
