According to Greenwich resident Ali Gilbert, director of Performance & Golf Fitness at CLAY Health Club + Spa in Port Chester, that doesn't mean you have to give up the traditional foods you love. Instead, focus on what you can control, which is the quantity of treats you indulge in.

Here, her three tips for staying fit throughout the holidays:

  • The day of a party or dinner, get a solid weight training session in and be sure to load up on protein when you know you will be faced with decadent dishes and desserts.
  • Prioritize healthy nutritional choices and weight training. Steady-state cardio alone will get you sweaty but it won't provide the fat loss benefits that staying committed to nutrition and weight training will. Steady-state cardio comes last on the hierarchy of fat loss – weight training builds muscle mass, which raises metabolism and burns more fat.
  • Make time. Sometimes getting to the gym during the holiday rush is tough. This circuit is a great way to combine strength and cardio in the form of metabolic conditioning. It is a short, effective workout that will have your body burning calories for the rest of the day.
