GREENWICH, Conn. -- Christine Georgopulo knew she had an amazing staff and students at the Arthur Murray Grande Ballroom of Greenwich. Now she has the hardware to prove it.

Champion instructors Kelly Butler and Tom Varian traveled with Greenwich residents/students Jean O'Hare and Ran Holladay to Chicago for the NorthStar Dance-O-Rama, competing against 25 other Arthur Murray Dance Centers from around the world. The Greenwich dancers were honored with the Top Studio award.

Arthur Murray Dance Centers turns 103 in January with 280 schools around the world teaching 44 partner dances through the Medalist System. Much like the Olympics, students compete for bronze, silver and gold medals and are judged on knowledge of the syllabus, technique and timing of their chosen dance and level. Judges also see if students are enjoying themselves and if they feel the music and the dance.

O'Hare and Holladay only have been dancing a year, but already are excelling in both social and competitive dancing.

"We specialize in working with people who have never danced before," Georgopulo said. "So many people have told us how their bodies and lives have changed for the better since dancing with us. The benefits of dance are endless. Our motto is, "Ask not if you can dance, Ask what dance can do for you."

Georgopulo said the studio has started a new rewards program for dancers inside and outside the studio. Non-students who download and share the app amgreenwich.com on Facebook or Twitter are rewarded with a free 30-minute introductory private lesson.

Existing students can download the app and use it as a punchcard. After taking 12 group classes in one month, they receive a free Master Group class from one of the Arthur Murray World Champion traveling coaches.
