Greenwich Avenue To Host Fashion Night Out

GREENWICH, Conn. — Looking for the latest fall fashion? Then head to Greenwich’s Fashion Night Out Thursday night.

Greenwich Avenue will be closed from Lewis to Elm streets, as local stores have town residents model the latest styles. This year’s event will also feature several vehicles from Miller Motorcars and dancers from Arthur Murray Dance Studio, said organizer Geri Corrigan, of Saks Fifth Avenue.

Retail stores, salons, galleries, banks, restaurants and other businesses will stay open later to help celebrate the beginning of the fall, a release from the town said. Several of the places, including Saks Fifth Avenue, will stay open later to have cocktail parties and music following the modeling show.

“It’s become a way to celebrate the end of summer,” Corrigan said, adding that the forecast is for clear weather.

This is Greenwich’s third year participating in the Fashion Night Out. Last year, with the assistance of Greenwich’s government, the event went outdoors, allowing the different stores to work together and make it an event people begin looking forward to each year, Corrigan said.

Fashion Night Out is an international event, started in 2009 as a way to try to boost the economy and put the fun back in shopping, its website said. Last year events took place in 18 different countries, with more than 4,500 events in America, the website said.

The runway walk is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday with other events to follow.
