Did You File? Greenwich Post Offices Open Regular Hours On Tax Day

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- With more and more people filing tax returns online, fewer and fewer post offices in the Fairfield County area are staying open late for last-minute filers.

Tax forms are due April 15.

All Fairfield County post offices are open for their regular hours, meaning that in many locations, you have until 5 p.m. for that all important April 15 postmark.

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) offers the following filing tips:

  • If depositing returns in a blue collection box on April 15, double-check the pickup schedule on the label. To ensure getting the April 15 postmark, deposit returns before the last scheduled pickup time.
  • Affix the appropriate postage, especially because the item may weigh more than an ounce. The IRS will not pay postage due and your filing will be returned if there is insufficient postage. The cost of a one-ounce letter is 49 cents and 21 cents for each additional ounce.
  • Be sure to include a return address on the envelope. Short-paid items without a return address will be sent to the postal mail recovery office for determination of the sender, delaying its return.
  • USPS highly recommends getting the security of proof of mailing and proof of delivery of your tax returns -- use certified mail service with a return receipt, plus the applicable postage.
