Everyone has been hard at work all week in the shop, located in their landmark building at 625 Bedford St. at the northern edge of downtown Stamford.
Stamford Florist offers a unique shopping option for the customer on the go — it has a 24-hour kiosk just outside the front door. It's a vending machine for a bouquet — convenient for someone who keeps unusual hours or is running late.
And if you're looking for more than just a bouquet for mom, Stamford Florist also sells hand-dipped truffles as well as lucky bamboo plants.
The owner says Mothers Day is even bigger for flowers than Valentine's Day. In fact, Mother's Day accounts for a fourth of the floral purchases made for holidays. About 35 percent of adults bought flowers or plants as gifts for Mother's Day last year.
According to a survey by the National Retail Federation, 66 percent of those celebrating Mother’s Day will buy mom flowers, spending an estimated $2.4 billion in 2016.
Based on consumer purchases of fresh flowers and plants for holidays at all outlets, the top holiday is Christmas, followed closely by Mother's Day with Valentine's Day coming in third.
