The sheriff's office said that over the weekend, school administrators were made aware of a recording of a fight that appears to show the staffer allowing two students to fight in front of their classmates, who moved desks to create a ring for the two to brawl.
They were eventually broken up by other students, not the staffer.
According to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, over the weekend, officers became aware of the video of the altercation circulating and initiated an investigation. The State's Attorney's Office is now being consulted regarding possible charges.
Officials made note that in a separate incident at Davis Middle School on the same day, one school staff member aggressively approached another staff member and assaulted them before being restrained by a third staff member.
"A substitute teacher approached another teacher here at Davis to discuss a situation," Principal Robert Griffiths wrote last week. "The situation turned into an exchange that disrupted the learning environment.
"It is important that our students feel safe and comfortable in school and anytime a report of inappropriate conduct is relayed, we will investigate the allegations."
Both incidents remain under investigation.
