Anthony Oliveras, Jr., 22, of Hollywood, was arrested following an incident that played out in the 44000 block of West Marvell Court.

Police say that troopers were called to the area to assist a possibly suicidal person.

As a veteran trooper and recent graduate from the Academy approached the home, where they were met by Oliveras, who had ill intentions.

Wielding a six-inch knife, Oliveras stepped out of the home and lunged toward the rookie trooper, stabbing him twice in the chest, piercing his uniform and bullet-proof vest.

Both troopers then shot at Oliveras, striking him at least once. He was then treated until paramedics arrived to take him to an area hospital, where he was later airlifted to MedStar Washington Hospital Center in DC for treatment.

As of Monday afternoon, Oliveras was still being treated there, and both troopers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, pending the investigation into the incident.

Oliveras was charged with multiple counts of attempted murder, assault, and the use of a dangerous weapon with the intent to injure.

The stabbing and shooting remain under investigation.
