"Regular physical exercise plays an extremely important role in maintaining health and well-being," said Lyndsay DeMatteo. She has a master's in gerontology and is a MasterMind instructor and director of Therapeutic Recreation at River House Adult Day Center.

"Additionally, scientists have discovered that brain fitness is equally as important. The MasterMind Class is excellent because participants are so busy enjoying the brain teasers and cognitive challenges that they don't realize they are improving and retraining their minds."

The classes are offered at two different levels. The "Well-But-Worried" Class, held on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m, is specially crafted for those experiencing normal age-related changes to memory. The Brain Training Class, offered on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. throughout the year, is open to those with a diagnosis of memory impairment.

The first MasterMind session begins on Tuesday, March 8. Registration is required for each class. Those interested in taking the class can register on a class-by-class basis for $10 per class, or $70 for the whole eight-week course.

River House is located at 125 River Rd. Ext., in Cos Cob. For more information or to register, please call Lyndsay at 203-622-0079 or visit its website.
