In a story of friendship, survival and the spirit of flight, filmmaker Judy Irving (“The Wild Parrots Of Telegraph Hill”) follows a wayward, starving California brown pelican from her “arrest” on the Golden Gate Bridge into care at a wildlife rehabilitation facility, and from there explores pelicans’ nesting grounds, Pacific coast migration and survival challenges. The movie is rated G.
Gilman has served as an environmental education specialist and naturalist at the Audubon Center in Greenwich since 1977. A lifelong birder, he received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Earlham College in Indiana and did graduate work in science and environmental education at Cornell University. Gilman has observed birds across the country, including both of the U.S. pelican species. He has served as an ornithology instructor at the Audubon Camp in Maine, and on Audubon trips to Trinidad & Tobago and Kenya. He has also pursued bird study in Europe, China, Costa Rica, Honduras and El Salvador.
