On Tuesday, Feb. 27 at approximately 6 p.m., Sayreville police were dispatched to Washington Road and Walling Street for the crash, according to Lt. James Novak, a Sayreville police spokesman.

Officers found the male pedestrian lying in the roadway unconscious with no pulse, Novak said. They immediately began CPR, he said. Sayreville Emergency Medical Services and Paramedics arrived and took over CPR.

The victim was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he was pronounced dead, Novak said.

The victim's name is being withheld until his next of kin can be notified, Novak said.

The vehicle that struck the victim was traveling eastbound on Washington Road.

"It appears the victim crossed the roadway in an area where there was no crosswalk," Novak said in a press statement.

The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation, the lieutenant said.

No summons had been issued. The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information about the accident is urged to contact Patrolman Thomas Calise of the Traffic Safety Bureau at 732-525-5430.
