Sound Beach Community Band Playing Greenwich's First Light Festival

GREENWICH, Conn. – The Sound Beach Community Band, led by its conductor and music director Zachary Kampler, will perform its last event for 2015 at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Old Greenwich Merchants’ First Light Festival at the Sound Beach Firehouse in Old Greenwich.

The performance will feature best-loved holiday music and carolers. Bundle up in your warmest clothing and come stroll Sound Beach Avenue to celebrate the start of the holiday season with the music of Old Greenwich’s community band, which has been entertaining the community for 60 years.

Known as the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department Band until 2007, the Sound Beach Community Band has been an Old Greenwich tradition since 1955, providing marching music for the department at parades in Greenwich and other towns in Fairfield and Westchester counties, as well as performing free public concerts in town.

Kampler teaches at Westchester Community College and servers as conductor for the St. Catherine’s Players. The band welcomes new members at any level to join its core of volunteer professional and semi-professional musicians.
