At 9:30 Sunday morning, Stamford Mayor David Martin, former Major League player and manager Bobby Valentine and Downtown Special Services District President Sandy Goldstein will jump into the fray and go down the 1,000-foot-long slide that will be set up on Prospect Street downtown.

“It’s great to have a brand new event (Slide the City) in Stamford Downtown to engage the public, especially one that will appeal to every age group," Goldstein said.

After that inaugural run, the slide is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for those who have purchased pre-sale tickets.

Everyone else is out of luck as all tickets have been sold and there will be no sales on site.

However, for those who want to still have fun in the downtown, there will be volleyball, rock climbing, a corn hole and beer and wine in nearby Latham Park on Bedford Street as part of the festivities.

This is the only Slide the City event set for Fairfield County. You can also join the slip-sliding fun in Hartford on Aug. 22.
