GREENWICH, Conn. -- Parents and teens can attend a free event dealing with the mental health of teens on Thursday at the Arch Street Center.
"Stress, Success and Teenage Setbacks: What to Expect the Teen Years" will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the center, 100 Arch St.
The townwide event is targeted toward middle school and high school students and parents, and will focus on the mental health of teens. Through food, music, giveaways and guest speakers, this event will inform and foster dialogue about how to help teens deal and cope with the pressures they face and ways to prevent underage drinking in the community.
To give teens insight on how positive influences can generate lasting success, Greenwich Junior United Way invited GHS alum, Scott “Scooter” Braun to keynote the event. Braun is responsible for shaping the careers of some of music’s biggest stars, including Ariana Grande, and manages talent like Justin Bieber, Black Eyed Peas, Martin Garrix and Karlie Kloss.
“Scooter was very involved in high school,” explained Greenwich Junior United Way program coordinator Emily Zerbst. “Throughout our teen years, Scooter was an active role model as class president and a student-athlete. In addition to speaking about his personal experiences, Scooter will talk about how he avoided destructive influences and made positive decisions by setting goals and having an active role in the community.”
The event is sponsored by the Greenwich High School Outreach Club/Students Against Destructive Decisions National Chapter and Greenwich High School administration in partnership with Arch Street Teen Center, Greenwich Junior United Way, Liberation Programs, Beth O'Malley of O'Malley Wellness and members of the Health & Wellness Committee of the Greenwich Public Schools Parent Teacher Association Council.
The GHS Outreach Club is committed to promoting the downward trend in underage drinking by continuing to educate peers of the importance of their motto “Keep yourself safe. Party sober.”
