Dreyfuss will talk about the experience of making the film before the 7 p.m. screening. Tickets also are available for a VIP party featuring the Oscar-winning actor at 5:30 p.m. A regular screening of the film will be at 1 p.m.

The Aquarium wants to use the screening to dispel some of the myths about sharks perpetuated by “Jaws” over the years.

“Catching and killing sharks became popular sport after ‘Jaws,’ and remains so today,” said John Lenzycki, the Aquarium’s curator of animals. “Even [“Jaws” author] Peter Benchley himself came to regret the damage that ‘Jaws’ did to shark populations.

“Hosting a screening of ‘Jaws’ will give the Maritime Aquarium the opportunity to correct some of the myths about sharks that persist today, discuss their importance in marine ecosystems and explain how people are far more dangerous to sharks than sharks are to people.”

Tickets go on sale to the public at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 2. Maritime Aquarium members can purchase tickets now by phone at (203) 852-0700, ext. 2206.

Prices for the June 14 events are as follows: VIP party and reserved seats for the 7 p.m. screening are $225 for non-members and $200 for Aquarium members, the 7 p.m. screening is $65 for non-members and $60 for members, and the 1 p.m. screening without Dreyfuss costs $11.50 for adults, $10.50 youths and seniors and $9.50 for children.
