Susan Marks, a member of the Darien Board of Selectmen, will deliver the first reading of the Pledge Against Racism at 9:30 a.m. at Darien Town Hall. This will be followed by a reading at Norwalk City hall by Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling at 11:30 a.m.
Each April YWCAs across the country take part in Stand Against Racism events to draw attention to the need for peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. More than 65 percent of YWCA associations offer racial justice programs designed to define, develop and implement strategies to address and combat individual and structural racism.
Nearly 300,000 people participate in YWCA racial justice programs to increase awareness, build trust, break down stereotypes and communication barriers, and build mutual respect and understanding of racial differences.
