GREENWICH, Conn. – A kids-only version of the "Polar Plunge" – the annual dip into the frigid waters of Long Island Sound – will take place at Greenwich Point on New Year's Day to help raise funds for Kids In Crisis.

Dubbed "I Took The Plunge For Kids," the first annual event invites kids to run, jump or dunk their heads under the freezing water at Greenwich Point in Old Greenwich. The event is free, but proceeds raised from encouraged donations at the event will go to Kids in Crisis.

The plunge will take place at noon sharp. Participants are strongly urged to get to Tod’s Point around 11:30 a.m., as traffic is anticipated. A group photo will be taken at 11:50 a.m. before a countdown run into the water.

Limited edition T-shirts will be available for $20.

I Took the Plunge for Kids is sponsored by Angela Swift of Prudential Realty.

Kids in Crisis is Connecticut’s only free, round-the-clock agency providing emergency shelter, crisis counseling and community educational programs for children of all ages and families. The organization deals with domestic violence, mental health and family problems, substance abuse, economic difficulties and more.  Since its founding in 1978, Kids in Crisis has helped more than 112,000 Connecticut children and families.
