Bedford Home Offers Perfect Combination For Lifestyle, Entertaining

BEDFORD, N.Y. – For Alan Marks, his home at 215 Bedford Banksville Road provided the perfect combination of family lifestyle, home entertainment and New York City accessibility. Marks reluctantly put the house on the market recently, but he and his family enjoyed their time there immensely.

“It was an entertainment paradise,’’ said Marks, a theater producer. “But also living out in the county, it was a great family home. It was glamorous living there. It was so bucolic, with the trees, the swimming pool, the seclusion. It was a great place to raise a family and the dogs. It was a wonderful lifestyle.”

The home includes five bedrooms, 7.1 baths and 8,356 square feet of living space. Marks has been the sole owner since it was built in 2000. The property features 3.25 acres, a swimming pool, exercise room, two media rooms, alarm system, fenced yard and a wine cellar. The home listing is online, and is being offered for $2,495,000. Douglas Elliman's J.B. Avery is the home's Realtor, along with co-listing agent Karen Goldman.

Marks and his wife, Barbara, raised two children there and sent them through the Byram Hills district. “The schools were great,’’ Marks said. “Our children thrived there and made a lot of wonderful friends.” The children have since moved away, and Marks and his wife no longer need the large living space.

“We also have a number of shows in development,’’ said Marks, whose wife is also a producer. “We need to be in the city at a moment’s notice. We can’t leave the dogs out there with an unpredictable work schedule. Moving to New York makes it a lot easier to get dog walkers than it was in the county. Otherwise, we would not have given that up. It’s surprising that people change their lifestyle because of animals, but they do.”

Besides the lifestyle, Marks enjoyed entertaining. He and his wife threw parties for 50-100 guests, and had enough space to accommodate for some who wished to stay overnight if they were visiting from out of town.

Marks also found the commute to New York convenient. The train ride from North White Plains was less than 40 minutes.

“The house is extraordinary, all the way from the construction to the finishes,’’ Marks said. “It was a wonderful place to entertain, but also a great place to raise a family.”
