Junior League To Host Greenwich Youth Film Festival

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Fifteen Greenwich students are among the finalists for the Junior League of Greenwich's second annual Greenwich Youth Film Festival to be held at the Greenwich Library on May 5 at 1 p.m., according to a statement.

The event will feature screenings of the top 32 student films in five genres, including animation, creative, documentary, music video and public service announcement.

The festival is free and open to the public.

The winning films will be picked by a star-studded judging panel, including Amanda Seyfried ("Les Miserables" and "Mamma Mia!"), Melissa Joan Hart ("Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and "Clarissa Explains it All") and Fox News personality Gretchen Carlson.

"The purpose of the festival is to encourage high school students in Fairfield and Westchester counties to express themselves through the art of film," the Junior League said in the statement.

Greenwich participants include Amanda Crowell, Carley Petrone, Catherine Cabano, Jordan Cohen and Maddie Church in the documentary category; James Arca, Nick Zeug, Maddie Church and Katie Hill in the public service announcement category; Gabrielle Giacomo, Isabel Nixon and Victoria Stein in the music video category; Caroline Keller, Caroline Kelly, Bridget Scaturro, Lilly Fischer and Nico Wada in the creative category; and Gabrielle Giacomo, Georgina Cahill and Isa Goldberg in the animation category.

The festival will also include speakers such as screenwriter and producer David Levien ("Ocean's 13" and "Rounders"), Blue Sky Studios animator Joe Antonuccio and Island Def Jam Music Group president, Steve Bartels.

The event will conclude with an awards ceremony during which the top winners will be announced and awarded cash prizes and unique opportunities to advance their exposure to the film and music industries. Awards include $1,000 to the Grand Prize winner, $500 to the other four genre winners, $100 for all second place genre winners, $50 for all third place genre winners, and $250 for Best Freshman Film.

The animation winner will also receive a tour of Blue Sky Studios. The music video winner will receive a visit to the set of an Island Def Jam Music Group music video and a private meeting at the company’s headquarters. The creative genre winner will also receive the opportunity to shadow a producer on the set of an upcoming digital comedy web series for Above Average Productions, the digital division of Broadway Video.
