GREENWICH, Conn. -- The India Cultural Center of Greenwich, in partnership with the Avon Theatre in Stamford, will present a series of Indian films beginning May 11 with "Kapoor & Sons," a Hindi comedy-drama about two estranged brothers who return to their hometown at their grandfather’s behest.
Showtime for all films at the Avon Theatre is 7:30 p.m. Discover Indian Cinema moviegoers are invited to attend the launch party of the series at 6:30 p.m. on May 11.
The Discover India Cinema series was launched to address the lack of Indian cinema in a community with a growing Indian population and to introduce American audiences to critically acclaimed films that break Bollywood stereotypes.
Professors Tejaswini Ganti and Meheli Sen, experts on post-colonial commercial cinema in India, along with Meera Agarwal, a communications specialist and Indian cinema aficionado, will offer commentary and reviews throughout the series.
On Aug. 17, The Avon will screen the biographical thriller "Neerja," the story of the 22-year-old flight attendant, honored by the United States, India and Pakistan, who saved 359 lives, including 40 Americans, when Libyans hijacked Pan Am 73 on the tarmac in Karachi, Pakistan.
Proseco and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Ticket prices at The Avon: Carte blanche members: free, members: $7; students and seniors: $9, non-members: $12. Discount tickets are available by clicking here .
