Central Hudson issued an alert on Wednesday, Sept. 8 cautioning that it is preparing crews for thunderstorms that could bring strong wind gusts and lightning, potentially causing service interruptions.
According to the company, forecasts are calling for a cold front to move into the area Wednesday evening that has the potential to bring "scattered, but powerful thunderstorms and wind gusts in excess 50 mph in some areas."
“These storms could break limbs and topple trees onto power lines,” the alert states. "Heavy downpours could also bring an inch or more of rainfall to some areas which could cause localized flash flooding.”
The most severe weather is expected to move through the Hudson Valley is expected between 8 p.m. on Wednesday night and 1 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9. The storms come in the wake of recent storms that left some in the region without power for more than two days.
“We are closely monitoring the potential for storms on Wednesday evening that could be localized, but potentially severe," Ryan Hawthorne, Vice President of Electric Engineering and Operations at Central Hudson, said.
"Our crews are prepared to respond in the event outages do occur. We ask customers to exercise extra caution as these storms can create hazardous conditions."
