Man Killed During Officer-Involved Shooting On Long Island

Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting on Long Island.

The shooting took place around 10:45 p.m., Thursday, May 20 in the area of Bauer Avenue in Manorville after a Suffolk County officer responded to a 911 call reporting a suspicious person on the back seat of a vehicle, said the Suffolk County Police.

Upon arrival, the officer located the vehicle, and the man inside the vehicle, said police. 

The officer began talking with the man, and a struggle ensued, according to police, who said the officer fired his gun, striking the man.

The man, whose identity has not been confirmed, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a knife was recovered from him, police said.

 The officer was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.

Suffolk County Homicide Section detectives along with investigators from the New York State Office of the Attorney General Office of Special Investigation are investigating.
