Janina Wojnarowska, 50, is being held on $25,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail pending a Municipal Court hearing.

Wojnarowska, who lives in Passaic, was driving a Nissan Versa north on Palisade Avenue around 12:20 in the afternoon April 2 when it rear-ended a Toyota Camry stopped for a red light at Walker Street, reports show.

In her purse police found a half-empty 750ml bottle of Aguardiente Antiqueno, an anise-flavored liqueur, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

Hospitalized following the crash were the driver of the other car, 52-year-old Elin Abdallah of Cliffside Park, and her front-seat passenger, Issa Abdallah, 73. Also injured, Molinelli said, was Caterina Sartor, 85, of Cliffside Park, who was a rear-seat passenger in Wojnarowska’s car.

Cliffside Park police gave Wojnarowska summonses for driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, having an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle and careless driving. She was released pending a Municipal Court hearing.

Molinelli’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit (FAIU) and Cliffside Park police dug deeper and arrested Wojnarowska yesterday that she “made no effort to stop and drove directly into the Toyota,” Molinelli said.

The investigation is continuing and could lead to more charges, he said. A Municipal Court appearance is set for tomorrow.
