Alicia Cavanaugh, 82, Englewood Cliffs Resident

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. -- Sister Alicia, CSJP aka Madeline Cavanaugh, of Englewood Cliffs died at St. Michael Villa on Dec 5. She was 82. 

Cavanaugh was born April 4, 1933 in Sayre , Pa. to the late Patrick Cavanaugh and Agnes Hassen Cavanaugh. 

Sister Alicia entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace on Sept. 12, 1953 and pronounced final vows at St. Michael Novitiate in Englewood Cliffs, on Aug. 22, 1959. 

Cavanaugh taught in Our Lady of Peace School in Fords; Annunciation School in Paramus, NJ; St. Didacus School in Sylmar, Calif.; St. Genevieve School in Panorama City, Calif.; and Mukumu Boys’ Government School in Kenya, East Africa. 

Cavanaugh also worked as the Director of Religious Education at St. Joseph’s Church in Jersey City. Cavanaugh retired to St. Michael Villa in January, 2015. 

She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Joseph and James, and sisters Regina, Alice, Catherine, Rita, Madonna, Marie, Agnes, and Teresa. 

Cavanaugh is survived by her sisters Doris and Marcella, and several nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 10 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Michael Villa, 399 Hudson Terrace.

Liturgy of Christian Burial will be on Friday, Dec. 11 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael Villa Chapel. Interment  will take place at Wildwood Cemetery in Williamsport, Pa.
