Norwalk's Travis Simms Named To Conn. Boxing Hall of Fame

NORWALK, Conn. – Former WBA light-middleweight champion Travis Simms will be inducted into the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame, the organization announced in a press release.

The Norwalk native will be one of six new members honored at the organization's eighth annual induction gala Nov. 10 at Mohegan Sun.

Simms turned pro in 1998 and won the World Boxing Association light-middleweight title five years later in Atlantic City, N.J., with a fifth-round knockout of defending champion Alejandro Garcia.

He successfully defended his title in a 12-round decision in 2004 and a nine-round TKO in 2007. Simms was finally defeated in a 12-round unanimous decision in July of 2007.

He also served as a Norwalk councilman for two years.
